Driving and texting have never been a comfortable combination for those who use iPhone with CarPlay. The experience, until now, was too tied to how Siri responded at that moment. And of course, when technology does not interpret what you say correctly, frustration appears quickly.

That scenario begins to change with the arrival of a native application of WhatsApp for CarPlay. The difference is felt from the first use. You no longer have to rely exclusively on voice commands that often ended in incorrectly sent messages or directly to the wrong contacts.

The novelty points to something simple, but key, and that is to make communication more direct without distracting the driver. Everything is designed so that you interact as little as possible with the screen and keep your attention where it matters.

A clearer interface designed for management

When opening WhatsApp in CarPlaythe first thing that appears is a list of recent chats. It is no coincidence that it only includes conversations from the last three weeks. The idea is to prevent the user from getting lost browsing through old messages while driving.

Each contact is displayed with their photo, a summary of the last message, and a visible indicator for chats without stumble on. It is fair and necessary information, easy to interpret with a quick glance.

If you need to write to someone who doesn’t appear on that list, access is also easy. Tap “New message”you look for the contact in your calendar and that’s it. The system allows you to write or dictate with much more precision than before, reducing the typical errors of voice assistants.

More features without complications

The application is not limited to messages. It also adds tools that make the experience more complete inside the car.

On the one hand, Call history lets you quickly see who called you, who you called, and what calls were pending. With a touch you can return a communication without turning around.

Plus, the Favorites tab replicates the featured contacts you already have on your iPhone. That means the people you talk to most often are always close at hand, no need to look for them.

All of this is integrated with the CarPlay design, adapting to both light and dark modes. The elements are large, legible and easy to identify even in bright conditions.

Less distractions, more abet to watch on

One of the strongest points of this update is the improvement in security. Reducing dependence on Siri also eliminates many of the errors that required repeating commands or correcting messages.

Now the process is more intuitive. You choose the chat, write or dictate and continue driving. Fewer steps, less margin for error and, above all, fewer unnecessary distractions.

At a time when cars are increasingly connected, these types of advances make a difference.

When will it be available?

For now, this new version of WhatsApp for CarPlay is in beta through TestFlight. However, everything indicates that its official arrival should not be delayed too long.

When it is released to the general public, all you have to do is update the app on the iPhone and connect the device to the car to start using it. No complex setup or extra steps.

For those who live connected even behind the wheel, this change represents an important leap. Messaging stops being a problem and becomes a really useful tool in the car.
