The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubiodenied that there was a message behind his photo with the same clothes that Nicolás Maduro wore on the day of his capture and even joked that the Chavista leader “copied” him.

“It’s a good suit. I mean, I like it. It’s comfortable,” the head of US diplomacy declared smiling when asked about that photo during an interview with the NBC network.

He copied me because I already had it before. I don’t know when he bought his. I didn’t even know that was his. In short, it is a comfortable suit. Don’t know. There was no message. “I didn’t even know they were taking my photo,” he added.

Last Tuesday, official White House accounts released a photograph of Rubio, aboard the presidential plane Air Power One en route to Chinain which he wore the same gray Nike sportswear that Maduro wore when he was captured in a US operation in Caracas on January 3.

The image of Rubio quickly went viral on social networksmainly by Republican activists and White House officials, who recalled the arrest of the former Venezuelan president, who today faces drug trafficking charges from a prison in New York.

The head of American diplomacy has had a greater presence on social networks in recent weeks as speculation increases about a competition between him and the vice president, J.D. Vance, facing the Republican presidential nomination for the 2028 elections, in which Donald Trump cannot run.
