The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed what many expected after the high audience ratings of recent editions: the comedian and presenter Conan O’Brien will return as host of the Oscars in 2027.

With this announcement, O’Brien consolidates a “trilogy” at the helm of the most important stage in Hollywood, after having successfully conducted the 2025 and 2026 galas.

The 99th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday March 14, 2027 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

The decision to keep O’Brien responds to the good reception of his brand of humorwhich managed to revitalize the interest of young audiences, raising the audience to over 20 million viewers in its last broadcast.

Conan O’Brien, true to form, celebrated the news with humor on his podcast, joking about the longevity of his career and the challenge of surpassing the record for the longest speech set in previous editions.

Structural changes in the gala

This edition not only stands out for the continuity of its host, but for representing the beginning of a historic transformation for the film institution.

According to the Academy, The 2027 Oscars will be the penultimate ceremony to be held in its traditional format and location.
