A boy identified as Bridger Hughes, 5, suffered serious internal injuries after his father accidentally ran him over. while removing a vehicle from the garage of the family home in North Platte, Nebraska.
Local police reported that the accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when The minor’s father backed up the car without realizing that the child was hidden inside a cardboard box located behind the vehicle.according to the native media KNOP.
Emergency transfer and delicate condition
The minor was initially taken to a local medical center and later taken by helicopter to Kids’ Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Relatives indicated that Bridger has severe internal injuries to his upper body and remains under specialized care. as doctors work to stabilize him.
The boy’s parents, Caitlyn Walter and Udell Hughes, remain with him in Omaha during treatment.
Through a fundraising campaign organized by family members, it was reported that the minor’s recovery will be long and complex, while medical and stay-away-from-home expenses continue to increase.
The family indicated that they face costs related to housing, food, transportation and other expenses derived from the medical emergency.
Calls for support and prayer
Relatives and friends have spread messages of support on social networks, where they described the event as a devastating accident for the entire family.
Relatives asked for respect and understanding in the face of the tragedy, insisting that it was a domestic accident.
“They are a good family. Accidents happen,” wrote one of the minor’s grandmothers when requesting prayers for the child’s recovery and strength for his parents.
Until now, North Platte police have not reported any possible charges related to the incident.
Authorities continue to review the circumstances of the accident while the minor remains hospitalized in delicate condition.
