The call for Guillermo Ochoa to the Mexican team has generated multiple debates. “Memo” is a 40-year-old goalkeeper who has great chances of playing in his sixth World Cup. But the former América goalkeeper does not want to watch El Tri’s games from the bench.
Guillermo Ochoa has played 152 games with the Mexican national team. Since its debut in December 2005, “Memo” has been part of the victories and defeats of the Aztec team. A few weeks before the World Cup, Ochoa hopes to be on Javier Aguirre’s list.
“Looking to enjoy this stage of my career, without a doubt a different stage over the years and for each World Cup that I have experienced they have special moments. Today with great enthusiasm for a new World Cup”said the Mexican goalkeeper in statements compiled by Récord.
The AEL Limassol goalkeeper has a great chance of being among those called up by Javier Aguirre. The unfortunate injury of Luis Ángel Malagón opens a space for “Memo”. But Guillermo Ochoa does not want to watch the games from the bench.
“I really want to continue contributing, I know I can contribute a lot, excited to be at this summer party. I hope I can be on that final list and working hard to enjoy the field.“he added.
Guillermo Ochoa has defended the Mexican goal in the last three World Cups. “Memo” has accumulated eleven consecutive matches in the El Tri goal in World Cup matches. Ochoa has been a starter for Mexico since the debut match against Cameroon in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

For the 2025-2026 season, Guillermo Ochoa decided to stay in Europe to fight for a place among those called up by Javier Aguirre for the World Cup. “Memo” has defended the goal of AEL Limassol, a club in the first division of Cyprus football.
Guillermo Ochoa has played 26 games in the season. In just over 2,300 minutes on the field, Ochoa has conceded 40 goals and has kept a clean sheet in 6 games.
