Thousands of iPhone users in the United States could receive money from Apple after a class action lawsuit related to artificial intelligence features that consumers say were announced before they were actually available on devices. The agreement has already been presented to the court and contemplates payments for people who bought certain iPhone models between 2024 and 2025.
The technology company accepted a $250 million deal to resolve accusations related to the promotion of new Siri and Apple Intelligence features in the iPhone 16 line. Although Apple denied having deceived consumers, it decided to close the case before going to trial.
The lawsuit was originally filed in March 2025 by Peter Landsheft, a California resident. Subsequently, other consumers joined the judicial process in the Federal Court of the Northern District of California.
Why did they sue Apple?
Plaintiffs Accused Apple of Promoting Advanced AI Enhancements for Siri during the launch of the iPhone 16 in September 2024, even when those features were not available at the time of going on the market.
According to the lawsuit, Apple used Apple Intelligence capabilities and a “dramatically improved” version of Siri as one of the main selling points of its new phones. Consumers noted that those features did not yet exist when sales of the device began.
The lawsuit accused Apple of “tricking millions of consumers into spending hundreds of dollars on a phone they didn’t need, based on features that don’t exist”.
Apple rejected the allegations in court documents. However, the company explained that it decided to reach an agreement to continue focusing on its products and services.
“We have reached an agreement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features,” an Apple spokesperson said in statements sent to CBS Info. “We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best: offering the most innovative products and services to our users.”
Which iPhone users will be able to receive money?

How much money will Apple pay for each iPhone?
Approved consumers would initially receive $25 for each eligible device. However, the figure could increase depending on how many people submit valid claims.

For now, the claim process is not yet available. The Clarkson Regulation Firm, which represents consumers, reported that an official site will soon be available to submit applications.
