A 74-year-old lawyer identified as Robert MacMeekin was shot and killed in his home in Phoenix, Maryland. in an event that occurred on Saturday afternoon that has shocked the local community.
Authorities arrested his son-in-law, Ticket Ryan, 41, who faces first-degree murder charges. According to the research, The attack occurred in the context of a family dispute related to the custody of the suspect’s children.as reported by WBFF.
Previous complaints and protection order
Hours before the shooting, the defendant’s wife, Alexandra Ryan – the victim’s daughter – had gone with her father to the county authorities to request a temporary restraining order.
In his statement, he denounced recent physical attacks and episodes of violence that occurred in previous years. She also claimed that her husband was seeking access to weapons amid the dispute.
Authorities granted both an interim protective order and an extreme risk order, although they failed to notify the defendant before the incident.

Shortly after, The suspect showed up at the home and confronted his father-in-law in the backyard. According to the police, after a struggle, he fired several shots that caused the lawyer’s death at the scene.
After the incident, the accused remained at the scene until the arrival of the authorities, to whom he confessed to having shot out of anger.
Conflicting versions in the judicial process
The defense maintains that the defendant had no violent history and that he carried the weapon out of fear of a possible confrontation. Besides, He argues that the struggle began when the victim tried to disarm him.
For its part, the prosecution highlights the seriousness of the crime and maintains that the victim was murdered without justification, highlighting that “his life was taken without reason.”
The accused remains detained without bail while the judicial process continues.
