According to an expense report filed with the Federal Electoral Commission (FEC), The Democracy Campaign Committee, which supports Gavin Newsom, governor of California, made two payments equivalent to $1,561.87 million dollars to Porchlight E book Firm, the publisher in charge of publishing the book written by the Democrat in February.

This amount of money was used to purchase thousands of copies of “Younger Man in a Dash,” a work that contains the memoirs of the 58-year-old politician.

The controversial thing about the matter is that For three months before the book was available, the organization that supports Newsom with resources launched a campaign through which requested support from supporters of the governor of the “Golden State” to make a donation – regardless of the amount – in exchange for later receiving a copy of “Younger Man in a Dash.”

Through a statement addressed to the newspaper The New York TimesNathan Click, spokesman for Gavin Newsom, acknowledged that the committee acquired about 67,000 copies of the 97,400 reported as sold.

“We were excited by the response. Our goal was to strengthen the relationship between him and the millions of people who have already expressed their support for Governor Newsom’s work,” he said.

In this regard, Nicole Taylor, spokesperson for The New York Timesadmitted in another letter addressed to Fox Data Digitalthat the purchases of copies made by the organization linked to the Democratic president overshadow the indication that it is considered one of the best sellers by the publisher.

“When The Times has reason to believe that a book’s sales include a mix of organic sales and wholesale sales, its position on the best-seller list is tarnished. That’s what we did with Newsom’s book,” he noted.

In 2019, another similar episode occurred, when the Republican National Committee allocated nearly $100,000 to purchase copies of the book “Brought about: How the Left Prospers on Detest and Wants to Silence Us,” which, as it was written by Donald Trump Jr., was also considered a bestseller at the time.
