The Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will be honored during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival through a special screening of his acclaimed film “Pan’s Labyrinth” within the framework of its twentieth anniversary of release.

This presentation will take place within the selection called “Cannes Classics”, where a total of 21 feature films, 3 shorts and six documentaries will participate.

“Almost twenty years ago, when the relationship of contemporary cinema with its own memory was about to be revolutionized by the incipient arrival of digital technology, The Cannes Festival created Cannes Classics, a section that makes it possible to publicize the work of enhancing heritage“, declared the organizing committee of the Festival in a statement.

According to what was said by the production, This commemorative activity will take place on May 12 and 13 in a ceremony that aims to celebrate the value of the work within the history of cinema, in the cultural and technical field.

In the case of the director, The presentation of “Pan’s Labyrinth” will be doubly special. The reason? The screening will show the 4K version of the feature film, This was confirmed by the festival when revealing this selection.

The recognition granted to Guillermo del Toro by the Cannes Festival highlights both his career and the cultural footprint of his workhighlighting how that film presented at the festival in 2006 came to consolidate itself as a predominant reference in Spanish-language cinema.

In addition to the tribute to the Mexican director, the tribute to Torre Nilsson’s work was confirmed with the 4K projection of “The House of the Angel”, from 1957; as well as “Michèle Firk” (“Une vie manifeste”, by Jean-Gabriel Périot) and Jeanne Lavaur through the title that reinvented period cinema signed by Bérenger Thouin (“L’âge d’or”).
