Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor and longtime supporter of President Donald Trump, is hospitalized in critical but stable condition, his spokesman, Ted Goodman, said in a social media post Sunday.

Shortly after Goodman’s post, Trump wrote on social media that “our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a true warrior and the greatest mayor in the history of New York City, without a doubt, has been hospitalized and is in critical condition.”

He went on to praise Giuliani’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results on his behalf, adding that he “was treated very poorly by radical left lunatics.”

Goodman did not offer further details. Giuliani was injured in a car accident late last year.

Giuliani became known as “America’s Mayor” after leading New York City during the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks.

After the 2020 presidential election, Giuliani and other advisers toured the country accusing Trump’s opponent, former President Joe Biden, of trying to steal the election and making false claims about the results.

A jury later forced him to pay $148 million for defamation to two election officials whom he had accused of voter fraud.

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and continues to fight with that same strength at this very moment,” Goodman said in a social media post.

“We ask you to join us in praying for United States Mayor Rudy Giuliani,” he added.

In September of last year, Giuliani, who will turn 82 this month, was traveling as a passenger in a Ford Bronco SUV. The vehicle was rear-ended in the state of New Hampshire.

According to what his bodyguard stated at the time, he suffered a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and bruises, as well as injuries to his left arm and the corrupted part of his leg.
