The Panama team will play the second World Cup in its history. Thomas Christiansencoach of the “Canalero” team, explained his team’s objectives in the World Cup. Panama will go for a historic victory.
At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Panama had its debut in a World Cup. On that occasion the Panamanian team left with three defeats in their pocket: 3-0 loss against Belgium; defeat 6-1 against England and defeat 2-1 against Tunisia. In the context of this background, Christiansen expects better results.
“Being Panama’s second time in a World Cup, seeing the results of the first, Well we want to improve itwe want to compete as we have done since we have been here in the Federation and I I think the team is more than prepared to have a good World Cup.“said the former Spanish footballer of Danish origin.

Thomas Christiansen has directed 88 games for the Panama national team. The respected European strategist has been under the leadership of Panamanian soccer for 6 years. Christiansen maintains a record of 44 wins, 20 draws and 24 losses.
Panama Group
The Panamanian team was paired in el Group L of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The Concacaf team will face two great European teams such as England and Croatia. The third in contention is Ghanapowerful African team. The “Canaleros” will meet again with England, team that defeated them 6-1 in their first World Cup.
“England is a candidate for the title, Croatia has a very solid track record and Ghana will be a very tough rival, but we are going to compete“, analyzed Thomas Christiansen.
Panama will debut on Wednesday, June 17 against Ghana at the BMO Environment in TorontoCanada. Six days later they will face Croatia in the same BMO Enviornment. The “Canaleros” will end their participation in the group on June 27 with a complex duel against England at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States.
