Donald Trump accused German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Tuesday of not supporting Washington in the war against Iran and stressed that it is not surprising that Germany is doing “so badly”, after the German criticized the US strategy in the Middle East.
“Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz thinks it’s okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. You don’t know what you’re talking about! If Iran had a nuclear weapon, the entire world would be held hostage. “I am doing something right now with Iran that other nations or presidents should have done a long time ago,” he wrote in Reality Social.
Trump, who in this way responds to recent criticism from Merz, insisted that “¡No wonder Germany is doing so badly. both economically and in other aspects!”
The president He published his message in the middle of the official visit of King Carlos III of the United Kingdom, whose prime minister he has also attacked for what he sees as a lack of support in the conflict against Iran, and a day after the German chancellor stated that Tehran is “humiliating” the United States in peace negotiations.
“I don’t see a clear strategy. In a conflict you not only have to enter, but you have to get in and you have to know how to get out. We saw what happens when this is not taken into account in Afghanistan, in Iraq and now in Iran,” the head of the German Government said this Monday during an event in the west of the country.
Merz initially supported the American and Israeli attacks on Iran. However, with the passage of time has taken an increasingly critical stancewhich has earned him the reproaches of the Republican.
Trump has repeatedly criticized his European allies for not responding to the call of Washington, which together with Israel began the war against Iran on February 28, without consulting or previously communicating to its NATO partners.
The president has also denounced Spain as a “shocking partner” after Pedro Sánchez’s Executive decided to close Spanish airspace to US planes carrying out missions against Iran and not authorize the use of the Morón and Rota bases in military operations.
“Has anyone looked at how badly the country of Spain is doing? Its economic figures, despite contributing almost nothing to NATO and its military defense, are absolutely horrendous. It’s sad!” Trump wrote on April 18 in Reality Social.
