Taylor Swift took a key step to shield her identity in the era of artificial intelligence. The superstar filed three trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), with the aim of protecting both his voice and one of his most iconic imagesaccording to Selection.
The applications were submitted on Friday, April 24, and were detected by intellectual property attorney Josh Gerben of Gerben IP. Through a blog, he wrote that two of the requests correspond to sound trademarks that They cover her voice: the phrases “Hey, it’s Taylor Swift” and “Hey, it’s Taylor.”
The third is a visible mark that protects a specific photograph of the artist.. It would be an image of Swift holding a pink guitar with a black belt and wearing a multicolored iridescent physique with silver boots during his “The Eras Tour.”

Concerns about artificial intelligence
According to Gerben, these requests reflect a growing concern among entertainment artists for the non-consensual use of their voices and images through AI tools.
In the case of Swift, His image has been used without permission in numerous fakes generated by artificial intelligence, including Meta chatbots and deepfake pornography that circulated on the web.
Additionally, during the 2024 US presidential election campaign, President Donald Trump shared fake AI-generated images that wrongly suggested that Swift had supported him.
With this strategy, The singer follows in the footsteps of actor Matthew McConaugheywho recently obtained similar trademark registrations to protect their own identity against the advancement of AI.
In an article published this Monday, Gerben explained that these types of records can be a key tool. for celebrities like Swift to defend their name, image and likeness rights. It should be noted that Gerben does not represent any of the parties involved in Swift’s requests.
The measure positions Swift as one of the first musical figures to seek explicit shielding of her voice and her visible image in the face of the challenges imposed by artificial intelligence.
