Republican senators vote to fund immigration agency
The debate in the Senate on the fiscal opinion began this Tuesday, when Republicans presented a budget resolution that would allocate about $70 billion to the Immigration and Customs Adjustment Service (ICE) and other agencies within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The resolution was approved with 52 votes in favor and 46 against, and it is expected to continue its process in the coming weeks.
Despite Republican support, Schumer stressed that the Senate’s efforts are being diverted towards a “partisan agenda” that does not reflect the needs of the American people.

High costs for Americans
Schumer recalled that while Republicans prioritize strengthening immigration agencies, Americans continue to face high costs for gasoline, healthcare, food and housing.
Furthermore, he pointed out that for weeks the Democrats have been willing to address issues that really concern citizens, but the Republicans have chosen to follow the interests of figures in their party such as President Donald Trump himself and Stephen Miller.
Republicans support funding for immigration agencies
On the other hand, the president of the Senate Budget Committee, Lindsey Graham defended the proposal, pointing out that the measure seeks to secure the country’s border and provide adequate resources to the agencies in charge of border security.
The resolution was approved by the Senate, marking the beginning of a process that could conclude with a “mass vote,” in which senators will be able to present amendments and force multiple votes. The Senate is expected to give final approval to the measure before the end of the week.
Republicans argue security for the country
Despite criticism from Schumer and other Democrats, Republicans see the budget resolution as a necessary step to guarantee the security of the country.
However, Schumer insisted thatThe real priority should be reducing costs for American families and that Republicans should focus on “reopen FEMA, the Coast Guard and the TSA”, key agencies that have faced cuts in recent years.
The legislative process continues to move forward with the expectation that the Senate and House of Representatives will reach an agreement on financing, although partisan tensions continue to be a central issue in the discussion.
