The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, regretted the armed attack that occurred this Monday morning in the archaeological zone of Teotihuacán, where an armed individual shot a Canadian citizen and then took his own life.
“What happened today in Teotihuacán hurts us deeply. I express my sincere solidarity with the affected people and their families. “We are in contact with the Canadian embassy”he noted on his social networks.
The president said that she instructed the security cabinet to follow up on the unfortunate events in addition to contacting the Canadian embassy.
“I have instructed the Security Cabinet to thoroughly investigate these events and provide all support. Non-public from the Ministry of the Interior and Culture is already heading to the site to provide care and support, together with the local authorities. “I am attentive and we will continue to inform in a timely manner through the Security Cabinet,” said the Mexican president.

According to the first reports from the Mexican authorities, it was around 11:30 in the morning that a gunman climbed the Pyramid of the Moon armed, threatened several tourists and shot at them, taking the life of a Canadian citizen and leaving four more injured (two Colombians, another Canadian and one of Russian nationality).

Authorities report that at least one woman was shot to death at the top of the pyramid in Teotihuacán.
The man who attacked her is also wounded by a gunshot.
