“El Chapo” Guzmán, former leader of the Sinaloa cartel, sent a letter written in English to federal judge Brian M. Cogan in which he requested fair treatment in the United States and exposes alleged violations of his constitutional rights during his confinement at the ADX Florence maximum security prison in Colorado.
The document written by hand and in English takes up less than half a page and in it Guzmán Loera indicates that he is waiting for a response to his request for justice invoking the first amendment of the United States related to freedom of expression. For the first time, he wrote a message in English, although with grammatical errors and unclear phrases.
In this letter addressed to the Federal Court of Eastern New York, he states that his extradition and trial should have adhered to both the Constitution of Mexico and the laws of the United States.
“This is a courteous letter about my constitutional policy of Mexico regarding the authority of being extradited to the laws of the United States so that I am given fair treatment in this country,” as El Chapo points out in a letter to Judge Cogan, who sentenced him in 2019 to life in prison.
At the moment, Guzmán Loera is being held in the ADX Florence maximum security prisonwhere inmates remain at least 23 hours a day in concrete cells of approximately 25 m² without any type of human contact. Each exit from his cell involves the use of handcuffs, shackles and chains. He only has one hour a day to exercise or sunbathe in a cage surrounded by walls of approximately 20 m.
In recent years, Both he and his defense have tried without success to modify his conditions of confinement through different legal resources.. None of them have been successful.

In the ideal stretch of the 2026 Closing Tournament of the MX League, the always exciting Liguilla is already beginning to take shape, to which the two most popular teams in Mexico are heading at times diametrically opposed to each other. Carlos Millet gave us a brief overview of what awaits us in the following weeks.
“The two most popular teams in Mexico, America and Guadalajara are experiencing a diametrically different situation, although this day went well for both of them.. On the one hand, Chivas beat the Puebla team 5-1 at home and on the other, América defeated its recently staunch rival, which is Toluca, 2-1, with this it fully entered the qualification zone, it is placed in sixth place, but the truth is that the situation is quite contrasting between América and Chivas,” he said. Carlos Millet.
He added that “Chivas is only a couple of points away from securing first place overall and to receive all the return games that he manages to play in La Liguilla at home. It is true that Guadalajara is one of the big favorites to win the cup this year. However, It must be remembered that from the start of La Liguilla, the qualified teams will not have their Mexican teams. Which teams will be most affected? Of course Guadalajara, which could even have five or even six called up. Toluca will have at least three, América will have one, Cruz Azul a couple. And well, they will have to live this very strange situation of facing La Liguilla without their best Mexican players.”
