A 22-year-old woman and her unborn baby died in Kentucky after a man allegedly opened fire on her after honking his horn. The suspect was arrested and faces multiple charges.
The victim, Ava Woodcock, 22, died after being shot in a parking lot in Glasgow, Kentucky. Her unborn baby also died as a result of the attack, according to the Glasgow Police Department, cited by Fox 10.
The suspect, Brandon Bond, 24, was arrested and faces charges of murder, first-degree fetal homicide and evading police.
How the attack occurred
According to authorities, Woodcock was in his vehicle in the parking lot of a restaurant when he honked while the suspect was across the street.
Then, Bond allegedly opened fire on the car, hitting the young woman who was in the driver’s seat.
The vehicle continued moving after the shots were fired until it ended up crashing.
After the attack, The suspect fled to a nearby wooded area, but was later detained by authorities.
Police said the man had been consuming alcohol and displayed an uncooperative attitude after his arrest.
Woodcock was initially taken to a local hospital before being taken by helicopter to the College of Louisville Health Center, where she died Tuesday due to the severity of her injuries.
Pain and solidarity
The young mother of a one-year-old girl. Her family has received support from the community through a fundraising campaign to cover funeral expenses and support her daughter.
Messages of condolences and expressions of solidarity have multiplied on social networks in the face of what many describe as a senseless tragedy.
Bond appeared in court, where bail was set at $2 million. He is expected to face a preliminary hearing on April 16.
Meanwhile, the Glasgow community is preparing to hold a vigil in honor of Woodcock and her baby.
