Costco reduces prices on Kirkland Signature products: a strategy for its members

The wholesale chain costco announced a series of price reductions on own brand products Kirkland Signaturea strategy with which it seeks to strengthen its value proposition for members in the midst of an environment marked by the increase in some consumption costs.

As Millerchip explained, the company seeks to apply reductions when it detects opportunities to do so. Furthermore, he highlighted that the brand Kirkland Signature continues to drive growth in the food and miscellaneous merchandise within the company.

The chain has also expanded its own product offering with new launches such as a Kirkland Signature energy drink, popcorn with sea salt and ultrafiltered milk.

Costco’s strategy to offer more savings

During the same conference, the company noted that its margins recorded a year-on-year decrease, mainly due to a reduction in food margins. According to the financial director, this is due to the decision to lower the prices of frequently consumed products, including eggs and beefwith the aim of generating greater savings for members.

The company also indicated that a larger proportion of membership fees went to fuel due to the increase in gasoline prices. As explained during the call, this increase is related to the war conflict in Iran.

In the Q&A session, Millerchip reiterated that Costco’s strategy is to offer more value through lower food prices. For his part, the executive director, Ron Vachris, assured that price changes respond to strategic decisions and not short-term reactions.

“We have always said that we are the first to go down and the last to go up,” said the manager.

Costco bagels spark debate among consumers

While the company reduces prices on some items, another recent adjustment generated debate among consumers on social media.

Users reported that certain branches began to sell the Kirkland Signature bagels in individual packages of eight units for $4.Ninety nine dollars. Previously, customers could purchase two packages that added up to 12 pieces for $5.Ninety nine dollars.

The modification was celebrated by some buyers, who considered that the new format helps avoid food waste by allowing you to purchase a smaller amount.

However, other consumers questioned the change, considering that the price per unit increased compared to the previous presentation. Some comments also noted size reductions in other baked goods, such as trufflesaccompanied by higher prices.

The discussion reflects the different perceptions of clients regarding the adjustments of price and products sizewhile Costco maintains its strategy of reinforcing the value of its offer through selective discounts and new own brand products.
