This week, through a statement, one of the most important airlines in the United States, American Airlines, announced the temporary suspension of at least six routes due to the skyrocketing cost of jet fuel.
Since the war against Iran began at the end of February, causing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20% of the world’s crude oil transits, Energy prices have become more expensive. Gasoline alone in the United States increased by 50% and jet gasoline (jet fuel) doubled its cost.
According to the statement from the airline with headquarters in Citadel Price, Texas, Schedules are being readjusted for “select routes” scheduled for the months of August and September, but stated that “American Airlines will not suspend any routes indefinitely as part of this adjustment,” the spokesperson said.
The company also mentioned that affected customers will be relocated to other flights or will have their tickets refunded. Among the routes that will be suspended are:
- From Los Angeles to Cleveland
- From Los Angeles to Columbus
- From Los Angeles to Pittsburgh
- From Los Angeles to Washington Dulles
- Charlotte to Ontario
- From Charlotte to Sacramento
This has not been the only change that the company has made in recent weeks; Like other airlines, it is increasing the cost of its flights, fares, among others, with the purpose of offsetting the cost of fuel, which represents up to 30% of operational expenses.
