Authorities from Mexico and the United States dismantled a sophisticated drug tunnel allegedly operated by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), which connected the Otay Mesa area, in Tijuana, with United States territory and was used for drug trafficking to California.

The operation led to the seizure of more than a ton of cocaine valued at around forty-five million dollars and the arrest of four people.

According to investigations, the tunnel had a length of nearly 590 meters and a depth of approximately 17 meters.

The structure It had ventilation systems, electricity, rails for transporting cargo and reinforced walls.characteristics that demonstrate a high level of planning and resources for its construction.

The US authorities indicated that the seized drugs weighed approximately 1,029 kilograms of cocaine.

In addition, it was added that for six months, agents from the United States Homeland Security task force monitored an alleged retail store in Otay Mesa, San Diego, which turned out to be the front of the tunnel.

Likewise, it was reported that Among those arrested are two citizens from San Diego and two Mexicans.who allegedly participated in drug transfer operations through the underground structure.

Previously, the Frequent Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic (FGR) had reported on the discovery of a clandestine tunnel in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood, discovered through intelligence work carried out by the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) in coordination with the Security Cabinet.

The discovery represents one of the most important blows against drug trafficking networks on the border between Mexico and the United States this year, once again exhibiting the use of cross-border tunnels by criminal organizations.
