A man was shot to death during a religious service in Minnesota

A man identified as Khalid Ibrahim Abdi died after being shot multiple times during a prayer service held Wednesday morning at the Canterbury Park Expo Center in Minnesota.

The incident occurred shortly before 10:00 am in Shakopee, a city located about 40 kilometers from Minneapolis, the local Police Department reported.

The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Police confirmed an arrest

The authorities reported that A suspect was arrested Thursday morning and remains in custody while court proceedings continue.

So far, the identity of the detained person has not been publicly disclosed.

The investigation remains open and authorities have not reported possible motives for the attack.

Abdi worked as a field representative and member of AFSCME Council 5a union organization that publicly mourned his death.

The union’s executive director, Bart Andersen, said in a statement that the organization received the news with “unimaginable sadness and pain.”

“Khalid will forever be remembered for his organizing spirit, warm presence and unwavering passion for defending working class and historically marginalized communities,” Andersen said.

Community mourns loss

Colleagues and friends highlighted Abdi’s social and community commitment, as well as his closeness to workers and residents of Minnesota.

The union asked to keep the victim’s family, friends and co-workers in thoughts and prayers as investigations into the shooting continue.
