Annie Ramoswife of a United States Army soldier, was released after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents inside a depraved military facility in Louisiana.
Ramos, 22, originally from Honduras, was arrested in early April, just a few days after marrying Sgt. Matthew Smooth. The young woman came to the United States when she was just a child and has lived most of her life in the country. However, a deportation order issued in 2005—when his family did not appear at an immigration hearing—complicated his acceptable situation since then.
His arrest occurred on April 2when the couple went to the military depraved with the intention of enrolling Ramos in the military spouse benefits program. At that time, ICE agents executed the pending warrant.
He Department of Homeland Security (DHS) defended the action, pointing out that it was a measure based on compliance with the law. “This administration is not going to ignore the rule of law,” the agency said in a statement cited by the Times.
Ramos had previously initiated a process to regularize your statusincluding an application under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)which was not prosecuted.
After her release, the young woman shared a message in which she expressed both relief and determination. “The only thing I have ever wanted is live with dignity in the country I have called home since I was a baby,” he said.
Ramos also highlighted the support of his close environment during the process. “I am deeply grateful to my husband, who never stopped fighting for me.and to our community, who surrounded us with support. Thanks to them, I am home,” he added.
Now, Their priority is to advance in the regularization of their immigration situation. “I want to finish my degree, continue my training and serve my community,” he said.
