A skydiver died and another participant was injured after the two collided in mid-air during a scheduled jump in Washington statereported local authorities.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon at the Skydive West Plains facility in Ritzville, approximately 55 miles southwest of Spokane. According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded to a “medical emergency” around 5:37 p.m. after receiving reports of two injured skydivers.

The authorities They identified the deceased as Randy Hubbs, a resident of the Kennewick area of ​​southeastern Washington. The second skydiver involved was identified as Nicole Klein, from the Colville area.

Witnesses observed that the victim was unconscious.

According to the researchers, The collision occurred during descent. After the impact, Hubbs would have been incapacitated and lost the assist watch over of his parachute.

Members of the deepest and witnesses who observed the jump reported that the man appeared unconscious after the collision. They indicated that his head and arms remained motionless while he descended.

Authorities said Hubbs deviated from the designated landing area and ended up drifting toward an area to the northeast before disappearing behind a hill.

Emergency responders later received reports of two injured skydivers in the area of ​​E. Schoessler Boulevard.

Both paratroopers had extensive experience

The West Plains Skydiving company informed local media that both Hubbs and Klein were experienced skydivers and were using their own equipment at the time of the accident.

According to the company, Hubbs had completed more than 800 jumps, while Klein had accumulated around 900.

In total, 11 people participated in Sunday’s group jump operation.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office indicated that based on preliminary findings, weather conditions do not appear to have contributed to the accident.

“We offer our deepest condolences to those who have been affected by this incident,” the agency said in a statement.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities attempt to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
