Rising gasoline prices are causing more Americans to work from home, survey says

In recent weeks, The price of gasoline in the US shot up more than 30% nationwide, going from $3.30 to $4.28 per gallon, according to AAA. This has caused more and more Americans to work from home or change the type of vehicle they use, according to a survey developed by AmericanMuscle.com.

The survey results indicated that 12% of American respondents had started working remotely more frequently6% were looking for a job closer to home to save on gas and 15% said they plan to switch to an electric or hybrid vehicle.

The report highlighted that “rising prices are changing the way drivers think, spend and hit the road and that the cost of fuel has always been part of the vehicle ownership experience, but in 2026, it will affect American drivers more than ever.”

The generation that is making the most changes at the work level to save on travel expenses is Generation Z, with an increase of 16%; This population is the one that has most frequently started working remotely.

On the other hand, the survey report provided other data regarding the increase in gasoline prices; According to the American Muscle survey, the high cost is putting pressure on the budgets of American households. 69% say they are reducing the number of times they drive, while 50% have cut their discretionary spending to cover essentials.

From this same population of respondents, 11% stated that in a period of five years they plan to sell their gasoline vehicle22% are postponing car maintenance and 37% have canceled road trips to save on gasoline.
