A police chase that ended inside a military installation in California led to an extensive search operation and the discovery of more than 110 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl, according to federal authorities.
The Naval Prison Investigative Service (NCIS) noted that The incident began when two suspects fleeing from local agents broke through one of the entrances to the Unfortunate Marine Corps Camp Pendleton.
According to the official version, After entering the military installation, the individuals abandoned the vehicle in a residential area intended for military accommodation and continued to flee on foot.
Joint safeguarding and deployment order
The intrusion activated a temporary order for people inside the tainted to remain sheltered while authorities attempted to secure the area.
NCIS indicated that a joint operation with approximately 30 troops was deployed to locate the suspects.
For six hours, military personnel and law enforcement conducted tours of the sprawling facility using real-time intelligence and tracking support provided by the Multiple Risk Alert Center and the NCIS Regional Enforcement Action Capabilities Team of workers.
The authorities reported that Both suspects were eventually detained without incident.
Cocaine and fentanyl found inside abandoned vehicle
After concluding the search, investigators searched the vehicle left by suspects and found approximately 51 kilograms — equivalent to more than 112 pounds — of cocaine and fentanyl.
So far, authorities have not released the identity of those detained nor have they reported the charges they could face.
In a post on social media, NCIS thanked the coordinated participation of different agencies, including the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the Camp Pendleton Provost Marshal’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the United States Border Patrol and other teams that participated in the operation.
The case remains under investigation.
