Anselmi’s election comes at a time of transition for the franjiverde team, which was left without a coach after Eder Sarabia decided not to continue leading the team after ensuring the club’s permanence in the First Division.
In the official statement, Elche explained that one of the determining factors in betting on the Argentine was the football identity that he has developed during his career. The institution especially highlighted its commitment to positional play and noted that its incorporation seeks to give continuity to the sporting path that it intends to consolidate in a category that it described as increasingly demanding.
A journey between South America and Europe before landing in Elche
Before taking on this new challenge in Spain, Anselmi built a large part of his coaching career in Latin American soccer.
After beginning his training in the lower divisions of different Argentine clubs, one of his most notable cycles came in Ecuador with Valley Independent. There they won the 2022 Copa Sudamericana and also won the Recopa Sudamericana against Flamengo at the Maracaná stadium, in addition to participating in the Copa Libertadores.
Later he continued his career in Mexican soccer with Blue Cross, where he starred in a controversial exit, expanding his international journey.
The jump to European football occurred in 2024 when he took over as coach of the Porto. During his time in Portugal he led the team between January and May and competed in both the local league and the Europa League and the Club World Cup.
In that cycle he recorded 21 games in charge of the Portuguese team, with a balance of ten wins and six draws.
His most recent experience was in Brazil, where he directed Botafogo for six games before his arrival in Spanish football took place.
Elche assessed in his presentation that Anselmi has managed to develop teams with a defined personality and a recognizable offensive proposal, characteristics that he considers compatible with the idea of building a competitive and attractive team for his fans.
