The 2026 World Cup began in Mexico. El Tri defeated the South African team 2-0. A few hours later, South Korea faced the Czech Republic. The Asians also started on the right foot in the World Cup.
In the opening duel, Mexico beat the South Africa team 2-0. Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez guided the Mexican victory at the Azteca Stadium. This match had up to three players sent off (Sphephelo Sithole, Themba Zwane and César Montes saw the red card).
In the other match that took place at the Guadalajara Stadium, Czech Republic took the lead in the second half with a goal from Ladislav Krejčí. But the Korean team cooked up their comeback with goals from Oh Hyeon-gyu and Hwang In-beom. By goal differential, Mexico remains the momentary leader of Group A.
The action will resume in Canada. At the Toronto Stadium, the Canadian team will play its first game of the World Cup against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Canada will seek its first victory in a World Cup.
The Canadian team will try to achieve a historic victory supported by their fans in Toronto. This will be the first match in history between two states. Edin Džeko is the only repeat player from the Bosnia and Herzegovina team that participated in the historic 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The other duel of the day will be with the third host of this World Cup. The United States will debut against the Paraguayan team at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Mauricio Pochettino will seek to silence criticism of his process with a victory. Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna are the main American figures. Paraguay returns to a World Cup after its participation in South Africa 2010 (they were eliminated by Spain in the quarterfinals).
