Supporters of Measure ER, on the Los Angeles County primary ballot, They declared this Tuesday the victory of the proposal.
The ER Measurement proposes establishing a sales tax of half a cent for every dollar spentwith the purpose of helping finance health services in Los Angeles County.
At the beginning, Following the first provisional results of the primaries, on the night of June 2, Measure ER began with a majority of “no” votes.. However, as the vote count progressed, the “yes” to the proposal regained ground until it took the lead.

According to the most recent vote count, “yes” to Measure ER has 50.6% (1,005,998 votes)while the “no” has 49.4% (982,593 votes).
Officially, No electoral authority has declared the “yes” option to Measure ER as the winner.due to the difference of just 23,405 votes with the “no” to the proposal.
The ER Measurement needs a simple majority for it to be approved.

“Today, Angelenos sent a clear message: we take care of each other“said Jim Mangia, CEO of St. John’s Group Health and spokesman for the campaign in favor of Measure ER, in an interview with the “Los Angeles Times.”
“For months, we watched as Washington made decisions that deprived hundreds of thousands of our neighbors of health care, and today Los Angeles County responded“he added.
According to the promoters of the campaign, a press conference would be organized this Wednesday to announce the “historic victory” of Measure ER.

The proposal, presented on the ballot as Measure ER, recovered an initial disadvantage that occurred on the night of June 2when preliminary results showed that voters who voted early were not in favor of the sales tax.
Since 2012, voters have not rejected a sales tax increase in Los Angeles Countywhen a transportation measure fell close to the two-thirds majority of the vote, which was necessary to win, with 66.1% of the votes.
Approval of Measure ER would impose a new tax on sales of half a cent for every dollar spent in Los Angeles County.

Proceeds from the tax would go to local hospitals and clinics which, according to the promoters of the proposal, suffer cuts in their budgets due to federal measures.
It is expected that Measure ER could generate about $1 billion dollars a yearresources that would help cover deficiencies in the health services network in the county.
If passed, Measure ER, promoted by a coalition of health care advocates in Los Angeles County, would come into force on October 1, with a duration of five years.
