Thousands of owners of Jeep They received some discouraging news this week. The brand confirmed a massive review campaign affecting approximately 1.1 million units of Wrangler and Gladiator models manufactured between 2021 and 2025after detecting a problem that could lead to fires.

The measure is among the most important carried out by the company in recent years and comes after an extensive investigation into incidents reported in different vehicles.

The problem is related to a component of the power steering system, whose electrical connection could cause overheating and, in certain cases, cause a fire in the engine compartment.
The origin of the failure
According to the information presented to the US authorities, the problem is in the electrical connection of the electrohydraulic power steering pump.
Investigations revealed that some connectors were manufactured outside the expected parameters. This condition can prevent the terminals from making adequate contact, increasing electrical resistance and promoting heat generation.
When this occurs, there is a possibility that nearby components may melt or be damaged. Furthermore, drivers You may experience a loss of steering assistance and a “Service Energy Steering” message appearing on your vehicle.

An investigation that took several years
The review of this case began in May 2023when FCA US began to analyze various reports linked to fires apparently related to this component.
In a first stage, the company considered that the number of incidents was reduced and decided to close the investigation. However, the situation changed months later due to the increase in new reports sent by owners.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched its own investigation in September 2024. Finally, in May 2026, Stellantis concluded that a defect existed that justified a large-scale recall campaign.
The reported cases
According to data collected by the company until May 2026, 63 customer complaints related to this problem and 72 reports from the field network were recorded.
Of those cases, 35 were directly linked to the faulty electrical connection. Additionally, 12 other service records were identified that could be associated with the same problem.
The company reported that there is a possible injury related to this failure, although no accidents resulting from the problem were reported.

What owners should do
While the final solution progresses, Jeep recommends taking some preventive measures. These include parking vehicles outdoors and avoiding leaving them near homes, garages, structures or other vehicles.
It also advises paying attention to any warnings related to power steering, especially if the message appears. “Service Energy Steering” or if you notice a sudden loss of driving assistance.
The repair will be free and will consist of inspecting the system to replace or correct affected components when necessary. Dealers will begin receiving instructions during June, while official notifications for owners will be sent starting in July.
