He United States soccer has increased its level with the hiring of great footballers from Europe. It’s not just Lionel Messi, Tomas Muller or Antoine Griezmann the most prominent players in the tournament. Wilfried Zaha was also one of them. The Ivory Coast forward was reunited with his best version thanks to his time in the MLS.
Wilfried Zaha played for Charlotte. The former Manchester United footballer was loaned to the American team from Galasataray. From January 2025, Zaha continued playing in the MLS. But his assignment came to an end.
The 33-year-old attacker has played for big teams in his career. Zaha defended the colors of Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Galatasary and Olympique Lyon. However, it was in Charlotte where he resumed his love for the discipline.
“The time has come to say goodbye, but I just wanted to thank Charlotteto the city, for welcoming me and my family with open arms and allow me to fall in love with football again”Zhaha wrote in her farewell statement.
It is still striking that a player who has played in important competitions such as the Premier League, the UEFA Europa League or the Champions has lost the motivation and charm of playing football. Luckily for Zaha, the MLS was his springboard that allowed him to take a new breath at 33 years old.
Since his signing in January 2025, Wilfried Zaha managed to play forty eight games with the Charlotte jersey. The African striker He contributed 13 goals and conceded 8 assists in just over 4,260 minutes played. Charlotte became the second club in which Zaha has played the most games in his career (far from the 458 commitments with Crystal Palace).
“I want to thank everyone at Charlotte FC, from the coach to his coaching staff and all the non-public who made me feel at home every day (…) And lastly, the boys. Thank you for putting up with me every day. “I’m going to miss them a lot, but I’m going to keep our relationships in my heart forever.”he added.
Wilfried Zaha will return to Galatasary. The Turkish team continues to be the duel for the 33-year-old striker’s signing. However, Zaha’s contract with the club ends on June 30. The African footballer will have to evaluate his options for the future. Everything seems to indicate that Zaha will be a free agent in the next few weeks. This would make it easier for him to close a contract with another club to continue his career.
