The official presentation took place during FuelFest, held in California, where Toyota showed the news of one of the most important pieces of its sports catalog.
Settings that are felt behind the wheel
Much of the work done by engineers was focused on perfecting the vehicle’s response. One of the most relevant changes appears in the calibration of the accelerator, which now offers a more progressive and natural power delivery.
The operation of the transmission was also revised to improve the sensations during downshifts, especially between fourth and fifth gear. The intention is for the driver to perceive a more direct and precise interaction every time they change gears.
Another strong point continues to be its low weight. Thanks to the use of aluminum in components such as the hood, roof and front fendersthe GR86 maintains a contained mass that favors agility in curves and peculiar stability.

An engine that bets on balance
Under the hood remains the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine, capable of developing 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Beyond the numbers, the model’s focus remains on offering a balanced and fun driving experience.
According to Toyota, 2027 GR86 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds with manual transmissionwhile the automatic version completes the same task in 6.6 seconds.
For those looking for even more sporty behavior, the Performance Kit will continue to be available. This package adds Brembo brakes, high-performance SACHS shock absorbers and improvements aimed at increasing stability and take care of a watch on when the maximum demands are placed on the vehicle.

More technology and a renewed image
The update also covers security systems. Toyota expanded the detection capacity of the cameras used by driving aids and incorporated a new monocular camera that improves the identification of vehicles and objects at intersections.
As standard, the sports car includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic high beams and seven airbags.

In the visible section, the new Disclose color appears, a gray tone developed to highlight the muscular shapes of the bodywork. The interior also receives new features, including the Cockpit Red combination, which mixes red details with surfaces inspired by the world of competition.
Toyota has not yet confirmed official prices for the United States, although various estimates suggest that the range could start near $33,000 dollars and reach approximately $36,000 dollars in the most equipped versions.
