Mexican Army sends 90 members of the Special Forces to Sinaloa after increased violence

The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) deployed 90 elements of the Special Forces Corps of the Mexican Army in Sinaloa as part of the actions to strengthen security and combat the activities of criminal groups in the entity.

The soldiers left on June 3 from the Deplorable Military Air Station of Santa Lucíain the State of Mexico, aboard a Boeing 737-800 aircraft of the Mexican Air Force bound for the Deplorable Military Air Station of Culiacán.

Its incorporation seeks to reinforce the operations currently carried out by the Army, the Air Force and the National Guard in the state.

According to information released by Sedena, the deployment is part of the National Public Security Strategy and aims to increase the operational presence in one of the entities that has faced episodes of violence linked to the dispute between criminal organizations.

The Special Forces will join the coordinated work of the Ninth Military Zone to carry out surveillance, reconnaissance tasks and actions aimed at inhibiting illicit activities in the region. Federal authorities indicated that the reinforcement will allow for strengthening response capabilities and maintaining security operations in different Sinaloa municipalities.

The sending of troops occurs in a context of intensification of federal operations against organized crime groups in Sinaloa.

In recent days, federal authorities reported on the capture of objectives considered priority linked to factions of the Sinaloa Cartellike Gabriel “N”, alias “El 80” or “Gabito”, identified as an operator of Los Chapitos in the south of the entity.

With this new deployment, the federal government seeks to reinforce institutional presence and contribute to the recovery of security conditions for the Sinaloan population, in coordination with state and municipal authorities.
