The Secretary of State,Marco Rubio, toughened the speech of Donald Trump’s administration towards Cuba by accusing the Havana government of sponsoring terrorism, collaborating with Chinese and Russian intelligence operations and also lacking the capacity to promote the necessary reforms to overcome the deep economic and political crisis that the island is going through.

During a hearing before the Senate, Rubio defended the decision to keep Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

According to Rubio, armed groups such as the National Liberation Army, the extinct FARC and some of their dissidents received Cuban support at different times in their history.

The head of US diplomacy also claimed, without presenting evidence, that Cuba hosts intelligence facilities that operate for the benefit of China and Russia, an accusation that the Cuban government has repeatedly rejected.

Rubio’s statements come in a context of growing concern in Washington about China’s strategic presence near US territory. Already in 2023, White House officials recognized the existence of Chinese espionage facilities in Cuba and indicated that some of them had been operating since at least 2019.

Havana insists that any political change must be defined exclusively by the Cuban people and warned about the increased risk of confrontation with the United States due to its interference.

CalRecycle about its recycling initiative in California and a website that is entirely in Spanish

La Opinión Today we always have a space to talk about environmental initiatives that help us understand and, above all, to join the actions that support this cause. Rafael Chávez, manager of the CalRecycle Public Affairs Office, joined us to talk a little about a very interesting initiative called recyclinga.com.

It is a website that we have entirely in Spanish dedicated to promoting recycling of aluminum cans, glass bottles from the CRB program that we all pay when we go to the store, we buy those items, we pay 10 cents, 5 cents and the refund is when you return it when you recycle them and that is one of the objectives of this site to promote that, and the other objective is also to typically throw food scraps into the trash, but that has changed,” he said Rafael Chavez.

He added that “We have a new law SB 1383 requiring the entire state of California to now place food scraps in the green bin “so that they go to composting, that is, to create a type of compost that returns to the earth instead of going to waste in the landfill and that is the focus of the website that we have.”

Why is it important to offer this information specifically now in Spanish?

Rafael Chavez He said that “we are the majority of the state to begin with, we are like 10 million Spanish speakers, that is, people who communicate in Spanish, prefer to communicate in Spanish and taking this into account as at the state level We have to recognize that we are a large number of Hispanics who want to communicate in our language and we want to learn in our language and we want to participate And so this site focuses on carrying messages that also unites us as Latinos to this concept of recycling more and taking care of the environment.”
