They investigate possible cases of electoral interference in Los Angeles

They remain under investigation two alleged cases of election interference in Los Angeles a few hours before the primary elections in California.

The Los Angeles County Recorder and Clerk reported two suspected cases that occurred over the weekend, involving ballots from the electoral process in the Golden State.

One of the incidents occurred in an installed ballot box near the Civic Center, in downtown Los Angeles, where burned ballots were found inside. In the second case, a voting center was vandalized, so it is suspected that it may have been a premeditated attack.

In the first of the incidents, election officials discovered this Sunday morning what they described as a small number of mail-in ballots with fire damage in a ballot box.

After the discovery, electoral staff filed a complaint before the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

A second incident was also reported this Sunday morning, when election officials detected acts of vandalism at the voting center located in César E. Chávez Park.

Despite the vandalism, election officials assured that the voting process was not interrupted on the spot.

In both cases, an investigation is carried out to identify the affected voters, and once they are detected, they will be contacted to provide them with information about the available options. including replacement ballots, if necessary.

“Voting is a most fundamental right, and Los Angeles County remains committed to ensuring that all eligible voters can cast their vote safely and with confidence“, declared the president of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Hilda Solís.

“Any attempt to vandalize electoral facilities, damaging voting materials or interfering with the electoral process is unacceptable“added the First District supervisor.

Solís stated that they take these types of incidents very seriously.so they will continue to collaborate with election officials and law enforcement to protect voters, in addition to safeguarding the integrity of the primaries in California.

Election officials reiterated that, In California, it is illegal to tamper with ballotselectoral materials, voting equipment or electoral facilities.
