A man identified as Anthony Lee-Armstrong, 19, was charged with several felonies, including first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon for allegedly shooting at a family and injuring a pregnant woman during a road rage attack in Missouri.
The case occurred on May 17 in St. Louis, Missouri, according to court records and police documents cited by Fox News.
Police reported that the affected family was driving near Russell Boulevard and South Jefferson Avenue when two vehicles — a Volkswagen sedan and a black Honda — nearly collided with them as they entered a QuikTrip parking lot.
The argument led to a chase
According to the investigation, the family’s driver initially followed the other vehicles to confront them about the road incident before leaving the scene.
However, authorities maintain that Both cars subsequently began pursuing the acquainted vehicle, performing dangerous maneuvers and weaving through traffic to catch up with them..
When the family made a U-turn to try to escape, they multiple shots were fired.
The woman, who was 11 weeks pregnant and returning from a prenatal visit, stated that she immediately felt pain in her back after hearing the gunshots.
The pregnant woman was injured
Upon arriving at the scene, the agents found the victim with a gunshot wound to the upper back.
The man driving the vehicle also suffered fragment injuries to the chin and shoulder.
In addition, the car had significant ballistic damage.
Both victims were taken to a hospital to receive medical treatment.
The investigation included surveillance video that authorities said showed the suspect vehicles following the family and gunshots coming from the driver’s side of the Volkswagen.
Police later linked Lee-Armstrong to the case using automatic license plate readers, which identified the young man as the owner of the Volkswagen involved.
The injured woman also identified the accused in a lineup and assured that During the incident he made racist comments against her and her partner.
Authorities added that a second witness who was traveling inside the Honda also identified Lee-Armstrong as the driver of the Volkswagen.
The accused remains detained
Lee-Armstrong was arrested on May 23 and currently faces two counts of first-degree assault, four counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and property damage.
According to court documents, he remains detained without bail while the criminal process continues.
