Former President Joe Biden sued the Department of Justice (DOJ) to prevent it from allowing the publication of recordings and transcripts of interviews given to prepare his memoirs.
The significance of these contents lies in the fact that they were fundamental in the investigation into his handling of classified materials after the period in which he served as vice president.
The complaint was filed in the District Court in Washington, DC and states that DOJ is willing to turn over audio recordings and transcripts arising from interviews given by the 83-year-old Democrat to ghostwriter Ticket Zwonitzer with the aim of preparing the book about his memories, which was published in 2017 under the title “Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Difficulties and Purpose.”
The controversial thing about the topic is that The referred area matter would be made available to the Heritage Foundation and the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives on June 15.
However, a court order could prevent disclosure of the full content of those interviews.
Biden’s lawyers argue that, starting in February and without any formal explanation, the DOJ reversed its position of keeping the audios and their respective unedited transcripts, which it obtained as part of the special counsel’s investigation, which concluded in February 2024.
Behind the former president’s reluctance to disseminate the material that emerged from his interviews is the possibility of resuming the idea of blaming him for allegedly having deliberately withheld and disclosed classified materials.
Citing your right to privacy, Biden’s dazzling team demands that the materials not be shared with the conservative think tank or congressional Republicans.
“President Biden, like any American, has the right to privacy in the personal conversations he has at home. This is especially true in this case, where the Department obtained this information through a criminal investigation,” part of the lawsuit states.
