The Federation confirmed the arrival of both players through an official statement, in which it explained that The naturalized Mexicans joined the preparation of the national team ahead of the friendlies prior to the tournament.

“The sports management of national teams informs that the players Álvaro Fidalgo and Julián Quiñones joined the concentration of the Mexican team this day for the friendly matches prior to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” the organization said.

The coaching staff headed by “Vasco” Aguirre will take advantage of the upcoming commitments to define the final list of 26 players who will compete in the tournament. Mexico will face next Saturday Australia in Pasadena, California, and will later play against Serbia on June 4 in Toluca.

The incorporation of Quiñones and Fidalgo comes at a key moment for the team, which began its World Cup preparation several weeks in advance at the federation facilities located south of Mexico City.

Fidalgo and Quiñones seek to secure their place

Álvaro Fidalgo, 29, arrives after a season in Spanish football with Trusty Betis. The midfielder who emerged from the Trusty Madrid youth academy gained notoriety during his time with América, a club with which he won a three-time championship and established himself as one of the figures of Mexican soccer.

With Betis he played nine league games, in addition to participating in the Europa League and the Copa del Rey. Now he will seek to convince the coaching staff that he can occupy an important place in the Tri midfield during the World Cup.

For its part, Julian Quiñones lands in the concentration after signing an outstanding campaign with the Al-Qadisiyah of Saudi Arabia. The forward closed the season as the championship’s top scorer after scoring a hat trick on the final day.

The attacker appears as an important alternative for Mexico due to the offensive difficulties that the team has historically faced in international competitions.

Mexico will open its participation in the World Cup on June 11 against South Africa at the Azteca Stadium, the venue chosen for the debut of the national team in the tournament that will be jointly organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

As the deadline to submit the final call approaches, Aguirre continues evaluating variants and adjusting pieces in search of arriving with the most competitive squad possible at the start of the competition.
