Mexican Army detains nephew of “El Chapo” in Sonora

A military operation derived from intelligence work culminated in the arrest of Isai Martínez Zepedawho is identified by Mexican authorities as nephew of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

This was announced this Tuesday by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, who pointed out that The capture took place in the city of Nogales, Sonora.

Through social networks, the official explained that personnel from the Ministry of Defense, as well as the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic and the National Guard, participated in the operation.

Likewise, García Harfuch indicated that the detainee has an extradition order, so he could be sent to United States territory, where “El Chapo” is serving a life sentence.

Martínez Zepeda had already been arrested previously by the defunct Federal Preventive Police.

On that occasion, the subject was arrested in possession of two firearms and stated that he was the brother of Enoc Martínez Zepedawho was captured in July 2005 at one of the checkpoints maintained by elements of the Mexican Army on the roads of the state of Sinaloa.
