The ceremony of American Music Awards 2026 marked an unforgettable night for the Colombian singer Karol Gwho won two important awards during the evening: Artistic Excellence and Best Latin Album of the Year.
Clad in a sensual silver outfit with transparencies, The so-called ‘Bichota’ opened her participation in the gala with a performance of “Ivonne Bonita”one of the star songs from their album “Tropicoqueta”.
After the applause of the public and artists present at the event, The 35-year-old celebrity received the International Award of Artistic Excellence from the American Music Awards, an award that had not been given since it was awarded to Whitney Houston in 2009.. The list of artists deserving of this honor includes Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Led Zeppelin and the Bee Gees, to name a few.
The singer John Story was in charge of awarding the award to Karol G, but not before dedicating a few words to him in which he highlighted the impact of his music worldwide, as well as the achievements that have stood out in his career, including his presentation as a major artist in the Coachella 2026 Competition.
“There are artists who make hits, and then there are artists who make history (…) This is a rare and highly significant honor that has been bestowed upon some of the most iconic superstars of our time. Global sensations that have made music history and changed culture around the world. Like millions of followers everywhere, I deeply admire Karol G,” said the composer.
For her part, the “Provenza” singer stated that beyond the records and awards, her greatest reward is the affection of the public. “The most important thing in my life is purpose. I found that purpose through my music (…) It just makes me happy to be able to perform a song and say things in my songs that become the voice of many people, a place of healing, a safe place.“, he stated.
Karol G wins the category of “Best Latin Album of the Year”
The surprises did not end there for the singer born in Medellín, Colombia. And before leaving the stage, John Story revealed that “Tropicoqueta” won the “Best Latin Album of the Year” category at the 2026 American Music Awards.
Karol G, completely surprised, reacted with screams and gestures of joy for receiving a second award that night. which already looked historic for her and the Latin community that follows her around the world.
“I’m super grateful, I’m super happy, I’m super honored… and thank you to all the singers who were here supporting me tonight, thank you very, very much. To all my followers around the world, I love you so much. Thank you, thank you AMAshe finished.
