A woman was arrested Friday after allegedly shooting two attorneys outside a courthouse in Raleigh, N.C.local authorities reported.
The suspect was identified as Gwendolyn White, 57, who remains in police custody while facing possible charges of attempted murder, ABC News reported.
Raleigh Police Division Chief Rico Boyce said the attack occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday in front of the old Wake County Courthouse.
The victims were lawyers linked to the same civil case
The authorities indicated that the Two victims were attorneys representing the town of Rolesville in a civil lawsuit related to the suspect.
However, the police did not reveal details about the content of the legal dispute.
As Rico Boyce explained, the case took place on the tenth floor of the court and the defendant allegedly displayed aggressive behavior during the hearing.
Suspect returned armed after leaving court
According to the preliminary investigation, the hearing concluded and Gwendolyn White subsequently left the court building.
Authorities maintain that the woman returned shortly after in a vehicle, got out armed and approached the two lawyers before opening fire on them.
When officers and security agents left the courthouse, they found the suspect still in possession of a firearm.
The woman was arrested at the scene and later taken to a local hospital to receive medical attention.
The injured lawyers were hospitalized
Police reported that the two injured lawyers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Until now, Authorities have not released details about the severity of his injuries.
Following the shooting, both Wake County courts were closed for the remainder of the day while investigations continue.
Raleigh Police Division maintains an open investigation into the attack and has not offered further details about the motive behind the incident.
