Massive fire forces home confinement in Los Angeles County city

A massive two-alarm fire that broke out this Sunday in an industrial building forced a home confinement order to be issued in the city of South Gate, in Los Angeles County.

The flames were reported at approximately 2:00 p.m., in the 18000 block of Industrial Avenuean emergency that was attended by teams from the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD).

When the firefighters arrived at the scene, They found a single-story structure completely engulfed in flames and with a dense column of smoke, so firefighters adopted a defensive strategy to fight the fire.

South Gate Police Department officials issued a stay-at-home order for residents and businesses in the Garfield Avenue and Imperial Freeway area.

Shelter all people and pets indoors.. Stay inside with doors and windows closed. Be prepared to follow legal and fire safety instructions. Call 911 to request emergency assistance,” was mentioned in the alert from the authorities.

It was observed a huge plume of smoke from several miles awaywhile in the place where the fire occurred there were some trees near the building that were burned.

No injuries to people or firefighters were reported. due to the massive fire.

South Gate Officials They urged residents to avoid the area near Gardendale Boulevard and Industrial Boulevard due to the work of emergency teams while the situation remained active.

“The deepest emergency is actively working on the incident and traffic delays are expected. Please use alternative routes and avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work safely,” city officials asked on social media.

The flames appeared to be close to reaching some homes.although the LACoFD did not report whether other structures were in danger.

Southern California Edison reported that The fire caused a blackout that affected almost 500 customers at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Power was expected to be restored around 5:00 p.m., but the agency later updated its website to indicate that Electric power would be restored at 2:30 am this Monday, May 25.

LACoFD reported that at approximately 4:19 p.m., the fire had been brought under control.although teams would remain on site to check possible hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
