Alejandro Marcovich, legendary guitarist of the Mexican band Caifanes, He is in a coma after suffering a stroke on May 19as confirmed by his family through a statement.
The 65-year-old musician was emergency hospitalized after the cerebrovascular event. In the message, signed by his wife Gabriela Martínez and his children Béla and Diego Marcovich, it is detailed: “The musician is in a coma. in the intensive care area with a reserved prognosis“.
Family members added that Marcovich is “in the hands of specialist doctors along with his wife and two children,” and that, due to his state of health, he will not be able to attend the concert dates already agreed upon until further notice. The musician had a concert scheduled in Puebla, on June 26 and a more recent one in Mexicali on May 30.
In the statement, the artist’s wife and children took the opportunity to thank them for the expressions of affection, as well as the “prayers and good wishes” they have received. “We hope for your speedy recovery and appreciate your understanding in these difficult times.”“, they concluded.
Reactions in the world of music
The news generated a wave of messages of support from followers, musicians and former colleagues in the Mexican rock scene. The Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM), of which Marcovich is a member, published a message on social networks expressing his “solidarity and wishes for a speedy recovery.”
“We join the expressions of affection, prayers and good wishes from colleagues, friends and the public, with the hope that he can overcome the difficult health situation he faces, accompanied by his family and the medical team that cares for him“said the institution.
Marcovich was part of Caifanes between 1989 and 1993, period in which he contributed significantly to the sound of emblematic albums such as “El Diablito” (1990) and El “Nervio del Volcán” (1994). His guitar style, which fused rock with progressive elements and Latin American sounds, consolidated him as one of the most influential instrumentalists of rock in Spanish.
Throughout his subsequent career, he developed a career as a soloist, composer and producer, in addition to collaborating with various artists.
