An Indiana man was charged with murdering his girlfriend and shooting two people who tried to intervene while allegedly dragging the victim along a sidewalk in the middle of the street.
The defendant, Rylynn Joshua Davis, 21, faces 10 criminal charges, including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, criminal confinement and child neglect in the death of Cheyenne Angelina Raines, 23, according to the Fox affiliate in Indianapolis.
The prosecution is also seeking an aggravating circumstance for the use of a firearm that could significantly increase an eventual sentence.
The victim was shot multiple times
The shooting occurred on May 10 around 5:30 p.m. on the South Walnut Twin carriageway in Muncie.
Muncie Police Department officers responded to the scene after reports of several people shot.
When they arrived, They found three victims with gunshot wounds: Cheyenne Angelina Raines and two men who, according to the investigation, tried to help her.
The woman was taken to a local scientific institution, where she died shortly after due to multiple gunshot wounds to the face, chest, stomach and back.
The other two men were hospitalized in different medical centers.
Court documents indicate that the violent episode began days before, when the victim tried to leave the home he shared with Rylynn Joshua Davis.
According to prosecutors, the defendant prevented her from leaving and threw her to the ground, causing her to hit her head.
On May 10, The woman again tried to escape by walking down the street, but the suspect chased her and allegedly hit her in the head.
Subsequently, he grabbed her by the feet and began to drag her down the street while she screamed for help.
The attack was recorded on nearby surveillance cameras.
Two men tried to intervene and were shot
Two men who were passing by in a Dodge truck observed the attack and decided to stop to intervene.
One of them, Michael Hennessey, told local media that he initially believed it was a minor argument until he saw the suspect dragging the woman by her ankles.
Witnesses indicated that Rylynn Joshua Davis immediately opened fire on the men and the truck.
One of the good Samaritans was shot in the head and suffered injuries described by prosecutors as “incompatible with life.” The victim was taken in critical condition to a scientific institution in Indianapolis.
After the shooting, authorities say the suspect fled to another home.
There, the Officers found three children — ages 3 years, 2 years and 3 months — locked inside a room.
Investigators described the place as unsuitable and stated that the minors were covered in dirt and feces, without the presence of other responsible adults.
The discovery led to additional charges of dependent neglect.
Rylynn Joshua Davis remains held without bail in the Delaware County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 27.
