Neymar worries again Brazil national team a few weeks before the start of World Cup 2026. The coordinator of the Health Center of the Santos FCRodrigo Zogaib confirmed this Wednesday that the attacker has edema in his right calf.
Despite the injury, the Brazilian club assured that the footballer will be able to join the Brazil camp without problems on May 27.
The Santos FC medical officer detailed the striker’s physical condition and tried to reduce the concern surrounding the Brazilian star.
“Neymar has a small calf injury, edema. But, according to our planning, its evolution will allow it to be fit next week when he will join the national team“.
The injury was diagnosed after Santos’ 0-3 defeat against Coritiba Foot Ball Membership last Sunday in Brazilian football.
Carlo Ancelotti surprised by calling up Neymar
Neymar’s physical situation generates even more attention because he was recently included in the final list of 26 players called up by Carlo Ancelotti to represent Brazil in the 2026 World Cup.
The call surprised a large part of the football environmentsince the Italian coach had not considered the attacker in previous calls and had insisted that he would only call physically fit footballers.
The Santos FC forward thus aims to compete in his fourth World Cup after participating in Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.
Neymar will be out with Santos in key games
As a result of the muscle edema, Neymar was not included by Santos FC in the squad to face San Lorenzo de Almagro this Wednesday for the Copa Sudamericana.
In addition, the club will not have its top figure for next Saturday’s match in the Brazilian Championship.
The estimated recovery time ranges between five and ten days, so the attacker will remain under medical observation before traveling with the Brazilian team.
Santos does not rule out Neymar’s return before Brazil
Despite the injury, Santos FC is still analyzing the possibility of using Neymar in next Tuesday’s match against Membership Deportivo Cuenca, corresponding to the last day of the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana.
If the Brazilian manages to add minutes in that match, it would be a positive sign about his recovery before officially concentrating with the Brazil team.
The CBF closely follows Neymar’s recovery
According to Brazilian press reports, Neymar’s treatment at the Rey Pelé training center is being monitored by both Santos FC doctors and specialists from the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol.
The priority of the Brazilian team will be to avoid any relapse before the 2026 World Cup, a tournament in which Neymar will once again be one of the main figures of the team led by Carlo Ancelotti.
