One month after its release, The movie “Michael” is having an incredible performance at the global box office. The film directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson is showing that negative reviews overshadow the legacy of the “King of Pop.”
According to Comscore data, “Michael” grossed $26 million in the United States during its fourth week in theaters and reached $83.8 million worldwideranking first on both box office lists.
The film debuted at number one in mid-March, but it was surpassed weeks later by “The Devil Wears Prada 2”. However, the fashion sequel lost nearly 400 theaters in its third week, returning the throne to “Michael,” who is proving to have one of the most loyal fan bases of the year.
Other movies at the box office
Third place at the US box office: “Obsession”, Point of curiosity’s supernatural thriller Aspects, the debut feature from emerging dread director Curry Barker. The film added $16 million in its US premiere and $23 million globallyplacing sixth on the world list.
In third place worldwide was “Expensive You,” a Chinese independent drama that grossed $39 million in its second week.
With $703.8 million accumulated worldwide, “Michael” It is positioned as the second highest-grossing film of the 2026 season. It is still behind “Dapper Mario Galaxy Movie,” which is about $200 million ahead; The difference could be reduced in the coming weeks if the biopic maintains its pace.
Although this could change, since “Significant Personal Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” are coming soon and could be a surprise at the box office.
At the CinemaCon convention in April, director Jon Favreau showed the first minutes of the film to an enthusiastic audience, promising epic action with the sparkling Grogu using the Force and Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, taking out stormtroopers with lasers, flamethrowers and his fists.
