17-year-old Hispanic man dies after shooting in East Los Angeles

A 17-year-old Hispanic man was a victim of armed violence after dying from gunshot wounds early this Saturday, May 16, in East Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) reported that An investigation into the death of 17-year-old Joshua Aila remains ongoing.. The person responsible escaped from the place where the shooting occurred.

The LASD said deputies responded at approximately 1:15 a.m. to a call of assault with a deadly weapon near the intersection of Sixth Boulevard and Fraser Avenuewhere they found the teenager with a gunshot wound.

According to the LASD, The young Hispanic man was rushed to a health facilitywhere he later died.

Joshua’s sister said the teen was out to eat with his younger brother, and when he returned he was shot approximately half a mile (800 meters) from reaching his house.

Family members described Joshua Aila as a talented boxing coach, a sport he taught to his friends.

He inspired me because he always did good in life. He wouldn’t hurt anyone, and I can’t believe this happened to him,” said Joshua’s friend, David Ventura, in an interview with NBC.

A memorial was installed in the area where Aila lived with her family honor Joshua with candles, flowers, photos and handwritten messages.

“He played a very important role in our lives, training us, guiding us, accompanying us in our fights and providing us with emotional support. I hope those responsible are caught.“said Jayden García, Joshua’s friend.

According to LASD investigators, after the shots were fired, The attacker got into a dark-colored SUV before heading east on Sixth Boulevard.

Until this Sunday morning, no description of the gunman has been provided nor has it been indicated whether another person participated in the shooting.

The LASD He did not report whether the incident could be gang-related. which are located in East Los Angeles.
