James Comer contemplates running for governor of Kentucky

Republican James Comer is considering running for the second time to become governor of Kentucky.

Although he was born in Carthage, Tennessee, he has lived most of his life in Kentucky, which gives him the right to aspire to govern that state.

At the time, Comer served as Kentucky’s agriculture commissioner and, In 2015, he ran for governor. However, by less than 100 votes, he was defeated in the state Republican primary.

Based on that experience, a year later he was elected to Congress for the first time.

He has also chaired the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform since 2023.

From this position, he led an investigation against former President Joe Biden and his family with the aim of demonstrating that he had allegedly carried out million-dollar businesses benefiting from his political position, which he failed to prove.

Another of his subjects consisted of supervising the committee’s investigation into the case of millionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein and the network of sexual exploitation of minors that he ran offering his services to very powerful people inside and outside the United States.

In this way, James Comer has positioned himself in the political arena as a reference for the Republican Party, a situation that he intends to take advantage of by launching himself again in search of becoming governor, which he acknowledged during an interview with the newspaper The On daily foundation Self sufficient.

“I plan to run for governor in 2027. It’s not official yet; it will probably be around December,” he said.

The 53-year-old conservative claims to have dedicated much of his free time to learning in detail about the problems of Kentuckians and formulating possible solutions.

“The gubernatorial elections are in 2027 and I am very interested in them… Any day I’m not in Washington or my district, I’m touring the state. The response has been positive. “I am meeting new people and creating an organization for 2027,” he stressed.

Comer’s mission will be to try to take over from Democrat Andy Beshear, who by regulation can no longer be re-elected and, instead, intends to enter his party’s race to obtain the presidential candidacy in 2028.
