A Las Vegas, Nevada, man was charged with double murder after he allegedly entered a supermarket armed and shot dead his ex-wife and her new husband while they were both working.
Police identified the suspect as Alejandro Estrada, 43, who burst into a Smith’s Grocery store on Tuesday and almost immediately opened fire on the couple, according to New York Post.
The victims, Amanda Rosas and Victor Frias Rosas, died at the scene, according to authorities.
Suspect was detained by supermarket customers
After the shooting, Several customers who were inside the store managed to knock down and restrain the suspect until the police arrived.
Witnesses described a scene of chaos and dismay inside the establishment.
“He was completely calm. No expression. Nothing,” shopper Paula Milton told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “You could see his expertise because everyone was running and screaming, while he acted as if nothing had happened.”
The police indicated that Estrada was carrying multiple weapons at the time of the attack and now faces 12 criminal charges, including two counts of murder.
There was a custody and child support dispute.
According to reports cited by the New York Put up, Amanda Rosas had married Victor Frias Rosas last year. However, She was still involved in a conflictive judicial process with Estrada for custody of her two children, ages 12 and 9.
Additionally, the defendant owed more than $2,800 in child support payments.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the domestic conflict was the direct motive for the attack, although the investigation points to previous tensions between the parties.
The double murder occurs a few days after another criminal case that shook the city, when A high school student was arrested for the alleged murder of a homeless woman.
Police identified the suspect as Dennis Geiggar, a young man with a history of behavioral and anger management problems.
The victim, Marceline Biasini, 61, was found seriously injured on a sidewalk on April 21 and later died.
According to police records cited by local media, surveillance cameras captured the suspect approaching the place where the woman was shortly before screams and dozens of blows were heard.
Authorities said the teen had recently been expelled from a high school after an alleged attempt to set a fire on campus.
