A 31-year-old man died after being shot in the head at a Mississippi water parkin a case that authorities preliminarily described as a “tragic accident.”
The victim was identified as Jacob Nitkiewicz, who died Saturday at Flint Creek Water Park, located outside the town of Wiggins.
The Wiggins Police Department reported that officers responded around 1:21 a.m. to an emergency call about a person wounded by a gunshot inside the recreational complex.
When officers arrived at the scene, Nitkiewicz was already deceased.
Authorities assure that there is no threat to the community
The police indicated that, so far, Investigators believe the incident was an isolated incident.
“The Wiggins Police Department wants to assure the community that Flint Creek Water Park remains safe and that there is no threat to the public or park visitors,” officials said in a statement.
However, no details have been released about who fired the gun or the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred.
Stone County Coroner Wayne Flurry described the death as a “tragic accident.”
Authorities added that the investigation remains open and that they will release more information as the case progresses.
Family and friends remember Jacob Nitkiewicz
Nitkiewicz is survived by his wife, Mackenzi, and their daughter, Emersyn.
After learning of the tragedy, friends and relatives started a fundraising campaign to help the family financially.
“Jacob was an incredible husband and a proud and loving father,” notes the publication created to support his loved ones.
“Generation the heart of his home and his love for his family was constant and unwavering,” they added.
The message also highlighted that the wife and daughter of the deceased now face “a difficult road” after the sudden loss of the young father.
