The vice president J.D. Vance was at the center of controversy after publicly denying statements by donald trump that were recorded on video and that have provoked strong criticism inside and outside Washington.

During a press conference, Vance was questioned about a phrase uttered by Trump a day earlier, when he assured that the financial situation of the Americans “did not” influence his decisions regarding Iran and international politics.

When asked by a journalist, the vice president responded: “I don’t think the president said that.. “I think it’s a misrepresentation of what he said.”

However, the video of the presidential conference directly contradicts that claim.

Trump said he does not think about the American economy

On Tuesday, Trump was questioned about whether the economic decline and rising cost of living influenced his stance on Iran. His response was forceful.

“Not one bit. I don’t think about the financial situation of Americans”declared the president.

Trump added that his only priority was preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. “The only thing that matters to me when I talk about Iran is that they can’t have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

The statements quickly generated criticism among Democrats and users on social networks, especially in the midst of a complicated economic context for millions of American families.

According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Inflation in the United States reached 3.8% in Aprilwhile wage growth was 3.6%, a difference that continues to hit the purchasing power of workers.

Political pressure grows against Trump and Vance

The controversy escalated even more after various Republicans will try to qualify or justify the president’s words.

The president of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson avoided delving into the subject when he was questioned by American media.

Meanwhile, a recent CNN poll revealed that 77% of Americans hold Trump directly responsible for the rising cost of living in their communities.

Political analysts consider that the episode reflects the growing pressure that the White House faces in the face of economic erosion and international tensions, especially due to the conflict with Iran.

The controversy also revived criticism of Vancewho has been accused by opponents of acting more as a political defender of Trump than as an independent vice president.

The case went viral on social media after video clips circulated comparing Trump’s original statements with Vance’s subsequent response.
